Sanctuary Horses: Livy

AH-Livy-Jan16-2

Livy is a 20-year-old (in 2021) Belgian mare. Her story begins before she was born. Her mother was rescued from auction, pregnant and in bad shape. She began her recovery at Mylestone, and Livy was born here.

Livy has the illustrious heritage of the Belgian Cross, or Brabant, an ancient breed likely to be directly descended from the primitive Diluvial horse. They are the foundation to many European heavy horse breeds, and the basis of the Clydesdale. Belgians are so appreciated in the U.S. that several are kept at the Kentucky Horse Park. Livy is part of this magnificent heritage of one of the world’s most important breeds.

She is very attached to her pasture mate, Tommy, a pony, and enjoys being around other horses. We had hopes that this wonderful girl and her pint-sized friend would one day find a home, but as time has passed and such a home has not materialized, we look to sponsors and donors to help provide for her long term care.
